The Head of US Ministry of Defence Ashton Kutcher and the Minister of Defence of Ukraine Stepan Poltorak signed the treaty on military cooperation. This is the report of Pentagon press-service. The treaty intends to improve the Ukrainian army, to promote reforms in defence sphere of Ukraine and to reinforce military-technical cooperation between the countries.

According to the document, John Philip Abizaid, a retired United States Army general and former U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) commander will be a military adviser and will supervise the sphere of of military cooperation with Ukraine. He will consult the Minister of Justice Poltorak and other Ukrainian chief military executives on reforms, which are intended to standardize the Army of Ukraine up to Western principals and standards, including the reinforcement of democratic civil control upon the army, compaign against corruption, and transition to NATO personnel structure.

The treaty on cooperation will promote the enhancement of effectiveness of support to Ukraine in the security sphere.

Since 2014 the USA provided Ukraine with financial help ($600 mln) in defence sphere, including educational programs for reinforcement of defence capabilities of Ukraine, equipment for support of security forces of Ukraine and consultation on key military reforms.

In London the Minister of Defence of Ukraine general Stepan Poltorak met the State Secretary on Defence issues of Great Britain Michael Fallon. The Minister of Defence of Ukraine general Stepan Poltorak expressed his thankfulness for multilateral help of Great Britain in counteraction to Russion aggression, and for instuctors’ work, in particular. They trained over 2500 Ukrainian soldiers. This consult help will be expanded. Next year 5000 Ukrainian soldiers will be trained according to NATO standards. During the meeting the further aspects of cooperation were discussed.
