“Four Ukrainian battalions have already switched to NATO standards, and the preparation of the fifth one has already started”, the head of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Viktor Muzhenko reported in his interview on the  "Channel 5".

He said, that there are 1250 NATO standards, 65% of which are the operational standards, 20% - standards related to armory, military equipment and communications standards, and 15% - the administrative standards. Muzhenko expressed hope, that the Ukrainian military will be able to learn most of these standards.

He added, that today more than two thousand Ukrainian soldiers have got the  training foreign instructors.

Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in December 2014 amended two laws, abandoning the neutral status of the state. The new military doctrine envisages the restoration course at the NATO: Ukraine should ensure up to 2020 the full compatibility of its armed forces with the forces of NATO. In December 2015, during a visit to Brussels, President Petro Poroshenko signed a "road map" between Ukraine and NATO "on the military-technical cooperation."

The former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said earlier, that for Ukraine to join the alliance it is a must to achieve a number of criteria for the implementation of which, a considerable amount of time required. Experts believe, that Kyiv will not qualify for NATO membership for the next 20 years.
