NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) - The North Atlantic Treaty Organization - an international organization established on 4 April 1949 for the collective defense of Western Europe and North America in accordance with the principles of article 51 of the UN Charter.

NATO's primary objective is to protect the freedom and security of all its members through political and military means, in accordance with the UN Charter. Since its inception, the Alliance has been working to establish a just and lasting peace order in Europe based on shared democratic values, human rights and the rule of law. This major goal of the Alliance has been filled with new content since the end of the Cold War, since for the first time in the post-war history of Europe, the prospect of achieving it has become a reality.

A key systematic document for the development of cooperation with NATO and an important tool for reform in Ukraine, with the support of the Alliance, are the NATO-Ukraine Annual National Cooperation Programs (NRPs), which have been in development since 2009. The RNP is approved by the President of Ukraine. The central executive authorities, other state authorities, non-governmental organizations are involved in the implementation of the RNP.

Under the current conditions of aggression, temporary occupation, and the conduct of Russia's so-called "hybrid war" against Ukraine, the interaction of our state with NATO is primarily subject to the need to maximize the defense capability of the Ukrainian state and reform its Armed Forces. Efforts will be made to further bring Ukraine closer to NATO standards, which will allow our country in the future to meet the criteria necessary to join NATO.
